World Taekwondo Publishes Book on Social Responsibility to Mark 50th Anniversary

World Taekwondo has published a book on its social responsibility on the occasion of WT’s 50th anniversary of founding.

Under the title “Taekwondo: Social Responsibility,” the book was published in late May 2023 and distributed to WT’s member national associations during the General Assembly of WT on May 28, 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The book consists of four chapters: Chapter 1 on the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation, Taekwondo Cares and Taekwondo Peace Corps with a subtitle “Empowering the Powerless,” Chapter 2 on WT-ITF and Peace Festivals with a subtitle “Peace is More Precious than Triumph,” Chapter 3 on gender equality and para taekwondo with the subtitle “Equality and Inclusion,” and Chapter 4 on WT memories and WT artworks with a subtitle “Service Around the World.”

The publisher of the book is Dr. Chungwon Choue, president of WT and GCS International, and Dr. Seok-jae Kang, senior consultant for the WT Cares Program and secretary general of GCS International,  served as the editor-in-chief.

The peace festival section contains, among others, such articles as the 2019 DMZ Peace Festival, which was jointly organized by WT and GCS International in Paju, Korea on June 29, 2019; the 2019 GCS International Convention at Chosun University in Gwangju, Korea on Sept. 21, 2019; the World Taekwondo Peace Festival, which was co-organized by WT, GCS International and the U.N. Association of the Republic of Korea at the Seosomun Shrine History Museum in Seoul on Nov. 22, 2021; and the 2018 Jeju World Peace Walkathon, which was jointly organized by WT and GCS International on Jeju, Korea on July 17, 2018.

WT signed a memorandum of understanding on the promotion of taekwondo and the Korean language with GCS International, the Asia Development Foundation, and the International Center for Korean Culture on Sept. 28, 2018.
